Indigenous youth to benefit from WA grants

Family violence victims, the disabled and indigenous people are among those who will benefit from more than $3.1 million to 21 organisations in Western Australia for crime prevention and support programs.

Attorney-General Michael Mischin announced on Sunday the latest round of funding for local government and non-profit groups under the Criminal Property Confiscation Grants Program.

Mr Mischin said indigenous people were the focus this time, with one-third of the grants going to programs aimed at Aboriginal youth involved with drugs and alcohol, antisocial behaviour and crime.

Grant recipients include:

* Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Service - $200,000 for a new service model at the Wooree Miya refuge and to offer more support to Aboriginal women and children fleeing family violence

* My Place Foundation - $200,000 for a training program to identify risks relating to crime and abuse, and develop safeguards for people with disability

* The Humanitarian Group - $190,000 to provide legal support to family violence victims in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
