Hutt River 'royals' seek tax bill help

Western Australia's Hutt River Province "royals" are calling for help after they were ordered to pay more than $3 million in unpaid taxes.

Leonard Casley, 91, proclaimed himself Prince Leonard when he set up the independent state at a 75 sq km wheat property in WA's Mid West region following a row over wheat production quotas in 1970, but recently abdicated, handing the crown to his youngest son Graeme, 60.

A bailiff delivered the tax bill in February and earlier this month, WA Supreme Court Justice Rene Le Miere ruled it must be paid, saying anyone could declare themselves a sovereign in their own home, dismissing their arguments as bizarre, irrelevant and gobbledygook.

Graeme Casley has now called for pro bono legal advice and donations to a fighting fund.
