A blaze that threatened lives and homes in the West Australian shire of Gingin on Sunday has been contained.

A bushfire emergency warning was issued for Ocean Farms Estate in Lancelin where residents were told they were in danger and needed to act immediately to survive.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Monday the fire was within containment lines and the warning had been downgraded to an alert.

"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes," DFES said in a statement.

"The fire is burning in the Nilgen Nature Reserve south of Ocean Farm Drive, between Ocean Farm Drive and Indian Ocean Drive."

Bushfire advice alerts have been issued for fires at Hoddys Well, near Toodyay, east of Perth.

Meanwhile, much of northern WA is subject to severe fire danger ratings on Monday.

Affected regions include coastal and inland parts of the Pilbara, the Goldfields and Eucla and coastal parts of the West Kimberley.
