Food, plants and pests seized at WA border

More than 43,000 kilograms of "risk material" including fruit, vegetables, plants and animals were seized at quarantine checkpoints in Western Australia in the past financial year.

The Department of Agriculture and Food's Quarantine WA service inspectors intercepted 109 pests including moths and weevils that posed a risk to the state's $7 billion agrifood industry.

Almost 130,000 vehicles were inspected along the state's borders, while 10 tonnes of material was collected from airport amnesty bins.
