Fatal shooting not over bikie war: lawyer

A shooting in Perth's north that killed a young father had nothing to do with a bikie war, the lawyer for a man charged with murder says.

Brock Kevin Johnston, 27, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday charged with murdering 23-year-old Mitchell Finnerty in Banksia Grove on April 26.

He is also accused of attempting to murder Coffin Cheaters bikie member Pellegrino Mule and his son Mark.

Johnston was not required to enter a plea and was remanded in custody to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on May 25.

Outside court, Johnston's lawyer, Michael Tudori, told reporters his client would fight the charges.

"At this stage it's early days but he'll certainly be pleading not guilty to the charges and I just want to reiterate this is nothing to do with any club war or anything like that," he said.
