An extra $20 million will be spent on prescribed burns in Western Australia's South West region to reduce bushfire risk.

The four-year allocation will be announced in the 2015-16 state budget on Thursday and will be on top of the Department of Parks and Wildlife's annual prescribed burning budget of $10 million.

The funding will come from the Royalties for Regions program and will bring the department's total fire management budget for the forthcoming financial year to about $58.5 million.
