Electrical worker dies in WA

A Western Power employee working to restore electricity to Western Australia's fire ravaged South West has died.

The cause of the 55-year-old man's death remains unclear, according to Western Power, which confirmed emergency services were called to Yarloop at 1.20pm on Saturday afternoon.

A St John Ambulance spokesman told AAP two ambulances attended the incident, where they found the worker being resuscitated.

He was taken to Harvey Hospital where he later died, according to Western Power, which is conducting an investigation into the fatality.

"We are all deeply saddened by this tragic incident and on behalf of everyone at Western Power, I offer our sincerest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues," a company spokesman said.

Yarloop was almost completely destroyed by a fire in early January that killed two people and destroyed 181 properties.

Western Power are currently working to restore electricity to hundreds of homes and businesses following the fires.

WA Energy Minister Mike Nahan previously said Western Power had an unprecedented task of reconstructing the region's network after about 950 poles, 44 transformers and up to 50 kilometres of overhead conductor were damaged or destroyed by the lightning-sparked blaze that started on January 6.
