Eclectic alliance fights WA's Freight Link

Author Ben Elton will join federal politicians Alannah MacTiernan and Scott Ludlam at a community event against the $1.6 billion Perth Freight Link.

A wide range of groups are opposed to the federal-funded project including the Maritime Union of Australia and residents who have been warned they could have their property resumed for the road.

Others are concerned that a key component of the project, the Roe Highway extension or "Roe 8", will cut through the Beeliar wetlands, which is home to the endangered Carnaby's black cockatoo.

The community forum at Fremantle Town Hall at midday (WST) on Tuesday is fully booked, so an outdoor screen will broadcast proceedings to the town square.
