UPDATE: Perth woman cleared of Ebola after returning from West African conference

Health officials have confirmed a Perth woman has been released from quarantine after she tested negative to carrying the deadly Ebola virus.

The woman, an African national, was being treated at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth after reportedly showing Ebola-like symptoms.

The woman in her 60s had recently visited West Africa for a conference.

She was originally in Royal Perth Hospital before being transferred overnight to Sir Charles Gairdner by ambulance with two paramedics wearing protective gear.

It comes just a week after a man complaining of fever-like symptoms sparked an Ebola scare at the same hospital.

The man was quarantined at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital on Tuesday after returning from West Africa but was diagnosed with a less serious illness.

The hospital has called for calm, saying the risk of people with Ebola travelling to Australia is "considered to be very low".

"Even if travellers from West Africa did develop Ebola virus disease after arrival in WA, or elsewhere in Australia, our standard of care and infection control is such that once the disease was diagnosed there would be a very low risk of transmission to other persons," the statement said.

"It is important to note that WA is collaborating closely with other states and territories, and the Commonwealth, via the Communicable Diseases Network Australia, to ensure a coordinated risk assessment and response to Ebola virus disease in Australia."
