Divers to search for missing WA trawler

Water Police divers are travelling to an area off Western Australia's Pilbara coast where a prawn trawler that had three fishermen on board went missing more than a fortnight ago.

Mason Carter, 26, Chad Fairley, 30, and 57-year-old Murray Turner failed to come back to Point Samson near Karratha in their 13-metre trawler, named the Returner, on July 15 as expected.

Police said on Wednesday afternoon that sonar equipment had picked up "an area of significant interest" south of the vessel's last known location and they were confident it was the missing trawler.

The divers are expected to begin their underwater search on Friday.
