Digger's WWII medals returned

A 95-year-old Burma Railway veteran says his faith in humanity has been restored after his stolen medals were anonymously returned.

Milton "Snow" Fairclough had nine World War II medals stolen from his home in the Perth suburb of Victoria Park in September, but had tears running down his cheeks when he found them in his letterbox on Friday, in time for Anzac Day.

"Right back in November last year, I picked up the phone and a lady said, 'Don't you worry, you'll get your medals back', and bang went the receiver," he told ABC Radio on Monday.

"I can't get it out of my head that, you know, (maybe) a mother found out her kids had them and said, 'This is the time (to return them)'.

"I've got a lot of faith in humanity now."

Mr Fairclough marched in the Anzac Day parade in Perth, proudly wearing his medals.

He was a prisoner of war in 1942 and worked on the Burma-Thailand railway for three-and-a-half years.
