Cyclones continue to stall MH370 search

Cyclones have again temporarily stalled the Indian Ocean search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370.

Underwater operations on the Fugro Equator, Discovery and Supporter were suspended on Sunday due to severe weather, with wave heights in the search area predicted to reach 12m.

All three vessels are expected to resume the search about Thursday.

The Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre said on Wednesday the GO Phoenix, which arrived in Fremantle on Tuesday for a scheduled port visit, will join the hunt about the same time.

More than 21,000sqkm of the sea floor has been combed, which is about 35 per cent of the priority search area.

If there were no major delays, investigators could finish scouring the priority zone by May, JACC said.

MH370, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8, 2014, on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The Malaysian government formally declared the incident an accident on January 29.
