A 110 kilogram shipment of ivory has been intercepted in Perth on its way to Malaysia.

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officers spotted the ivory on Sunday while examining an air cargo shipment from Malawi.

West Australian regional commander Rod O'Donnell said smuggling endangered wildlife and wildlife parts was a very serious issue.

"We are dedicated to shutting down this horrible and cruel trade," he said.

No-one has yet been charged over the haul and investigations are ongoing.
