A construction company owner and a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang have been charged over the alleged extortion of a Perth restaurateur.

Police say the 50-year-old businessman recruited a 31-year-old member of the Bentley chapter of the Rebels bikie gang to recover money he believed he was owed by the restaurant, where his company had undertaken some work.

It is alleged the gang member assaulted and threatened the restaurateur on several occasions in an attempt to extort money from him.

After a four-month investigation, both accused men were charged with demanding property by oral threats and are both due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court later on Friday.
