Charge dropped against Irish backpacker

West Australian prosecutors have dropped a charge against an Irish backpacker who allegedly concealed the birth of her baby, who died.

Caroline Marie Quinn did not appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday after she was allowed to return to Ireland last month to be with her family.

The prosecutor said it was not in the public interest to proceed with legal action against Ms Quinn.

Ms Quinn was 25 and travelling with friends in the state's far north when she gave birth in May.

The law requires all births be reported, even when a baby has died of natural causes.
