The federal government's proposed $5 billion fund to develop northern Australia has not been passed by politicians yet, but the nation's vegetable growers have already criticised the boundaries.

Western Australian regional hub Carnarvon, which lies less than 200km south of the Tropic of Capricorn and 1000km north of Perth, has been excluded, for instance.

Vegetable industry body AUSVEG's deputy chief executive Andrew White said surely Carnvarvon, with a horticultural industry worth more than $100 million, should benefit.
