Man rescued from treacherous seas off Carnac Island

A man has been rescued from rough seas off the coast of Western Australia after treacherous conditions forced him to take shelter on rocks.

The swimmer was found clinging to rocks near Carnac Island, south of Perth, just after 10am today.

A rescue team was dispatched and one member of the crew swam out to where the man was waiting in just a hoodie and his underwear.

The rescuer was also knocked about by the large waves but eventually reached the other man and attached a floatation device to him.

The pair were then pulled to safety by emergency teams waiting on nearby boats. 

The swimmer was uninjured in the ordeal.

It is not known how the man ended up in the predicament.
