Calls for stamp duty help for WA seniors

The WA state government is refusing to rule out a stamp duty concession for seniors.

Real Estate experts believe the hefty up-front fees are stopping some retirees from down-sizing.

The Real Estate Institute of WA wants a $10,000 stamp duty refund for people over the age of 65, particularly to encourage people to downsize in their later years.

REIWA says it will also help to kick start WA's housing market again.

The cost of stamp duty on a median-priced $525,000 home is about $19,000.

First home buyers are the only ones who get complete a break, exempt if their home is less than $430,000.
