Bushfire close call for Hedland houses

Sheds, vehicles and outhouses have been destroyed in a bushfire that had threatened several homes in South Hedland in Western Australia's north.

The alert level has been downgraded from a watch and act to an advice after firefighters brought the blaze, which burnt through more than 1600 hectares of bushland, under control.

Meanwhile, an advice has been issued for people travelling near Tanami Road, 40km south of Halls Creek, as a fast-moving fire on Ruby Downs Station is billowing smoke.

An advice warning also remains in place for a suspicious bushfire near Country Downs station, 70km north of Broome, which has burnt through 110,000 hectares of bushland.
