A six-year-old boy has died after being struck by a boat propeller at a beach in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

It's believed the boy fell out of the boat when the engine kicked into gear, sending the vessel into a spin.

His 36-year-old father was also hit by the propeller as he tried to help his son. He was flown to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.

On Monday, the hospital said he was in a stable condition.

His three-year-old daughter also was flown to Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth.

The hospital could not confirm the nature of the girl's injuries, but said she was in a stable condition.

The accident occurred at Cleaverville Beach about 26km northeast of Karratha, a popular fishing and camping destination, on Sunday morning.
