A 32-year-old Nigerian man who imported more than 45 kilograms of methylamphetamine into Australia hidden inside hollowed-out timber has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars.

Supreme Court of WA Justice Stephen Hall said Emeka Okoli played a significant role in the importation and must serve 11 years in jail before he will be eligible for parole.

The haul was 65.7 per cent pure and was estimated as being worth up to $11 million if sold in one ounce parcels or $26.4 million if sold on the streets in one gram hits.
