Bereaved dad to speak at hospital inquiry

A man whose son died at a WA hospital from a treatable condition after he was given the wrong drug will testify at a parliamentary inquiry.

Phillip Olsen's son Jared, 41, went to Perth's new Fiona Stanley Hospital with stomach pains that were suspected to be caused by Crohn's disease.

He was given a strong drug usually used to treat leukaemia, and while he was tested to see if he had an enzyme needed to prevent its potentially life-threatening side effects, the results were never followed up.

Phillip Olsen is the only witness scheduled to give evidence at the inquiry on Wednesday.
