Premier Colin Barnett is optimistic Western Australia will receive another financial boost of about $500 million from the federal government to compensate for its poor share of GST revenue.

Mr Barnett told reporters in Perth on Sunday he had a 15-minute meeting with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Treasurer Scott Morrison while he was in Canberra for the COAG meeting and also discussed the airport rail project and the controversial Perth Freight Link.

Asked if the federal government would maintain a funding commitment of almost $1 billion for the Perth Freight Link, which was postponed after a Supreme Court ruling declared environmental approval for Roe 8 was invalid, Mr Barnett replied: "Yes, I understand so."
