Former WA premier Colin Barnett has told journalists to leave him alone after they tried to ask him about an inquiry into his government's spending, which led to record debt and deficit.

When Mr Barnett arrived at parliament on Tuesday, reporters asked him whether he would give evidence at the commission of inquiry, to be led by former under-treasurer John Langoulant, but Mr Barnett only replied: "Have a nice day."

He was asked a follow-up question and Mr Barnett responded: "Please leave me alone."

Mr Barnett also ignored questions about his political future.
