An 11-year-old boy, believed to be the youngest person charged with murder in Australia, remains in a juvenile detention facility while his bail application is prepared.

Patrick Slater, 26, died in hospital after he was wounded during a brawl outside Perth's Elizabeth Quay Station in the early hours of January 27.

The boy, who cannot be named, was allegedly part of a mob of eight people who attacked the man with star pickets, screwdrivers and rocks.

The Perth Children's Court heard on Friday the boy's bail application was taking some time while information about his living, supervision and education arrangements was compiled.

The boy was remanded in custody until March 22 when the matter will return to court.
