AWE abandons Mid-West fracking plan
AAP
Oil and gas company AWE Ltd has abandoned plans to frack a shale gas prospect on pastoral land 220 kilometres north of Perth.
The company said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange on Friday that it had decided not to hydraulically fracture the Drover-1 well after assessing its potential.
"This is good news for the community, good news for the groundwater and a huge relief for the landholder where the Drover well has been drilled," Conservation Council of WA director Piers Verstegen said.
