A West Australian man who shot an associate in the head over a $2000 debt and then dumped his body in bushland where it was found an hour later has been jailed for a minimum of 15 years.

Codie William Davidson was found guilty after a trial of murdering Ryan Penglase, 32, in the backyard of a Kalgoorlie home in August 2012.

Two prospectors from Queensland stumbled upon the body about an hour after it was dumped.

Davidson was sentenced on Monday in the WA Supreme Court to life in prison, with a minimum of 15 years to be served before he will be eligible for parole.

Darby Paul Thomas MacKenzie was also convicted by a jury of trying to help Davidson cover up the killing.

He was sentenced to four years and two months behind bars for being an accessory and aggravated burglary.
