Alleged Perth car shooter faces court

A 34-year-old man accused of driving around Perth with a loaded gun and shooting at four cars in the city's north has faced court and been remanded in custody.

Abdul Fatha Popal allegedly shot 18 bullets at the vehicles on Beechboro Road North, which is surrounded by scrubland, on Saturday morning.

One car was hit by seven bullets but remarkably, nobody was injured.

After putting up road blocks, police urgently appealed for information and dash cam footage from drivers who were in the area at the time.

They said public tip-offs helped identify a suspect who they spotted driving in Thornlie on Sunday night and arrested in Morley following a pursuit.

They allegedly found a loaded handgun on the front passenger seat.

Popal faced Midland Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with a string of offences including criminal damage and discharging a firearm to cause fear.

He will next face court on Friday.
