A man who has been on the run for a decade over the kidnapping and assault of a woman has been caught in Queensland and extradited to WA.

A 23-year-old woman had been found by a member of the public seriously injured and distressed in the early hours of October 30, 2006, on the Great Northern Highway, north of Perth trying to get away from a man, 23, who she knew, say police.

She had jumped from the moving car to get away from him but ended up unconscious from the fall and was recaptured.

She escaped when she later flagged down a motorist, who gave her first aid and drove her to safety, before she was taken by ambulance to hospital with missing teeth, severe gravel rash, head injuries and various other injuries.

The alleged offender was found nearby, resisted arrest and was subdued with capsicum spray, say police.

He failed to turn up to the Midland Magistrates Court in April 2007 after several court appearances and had been on the run ever since, before the now 33-year-old was found in Brisbane and arrested there this week.

He is due in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.

His original charges were deprivation of liberty, obstructing public officers, driving without a licence and reckless driving.
