A man accused of kidnapping two young children from a Perth holiday care centre and sexually assaulting them will likely plead not guilty, a prosecutor says.

Vincenzo Mule, 52, is alleged to have abducted a four-year-old girl and five-year-old boy from the North Perth program in April before molesting them and leaving them at Hyde Park.

Mule appeared via video link to Hakea prison in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Marie Mattocks said she believed Mule planned to plead not guilty, based on communications between him and his defence lawyer.

The court also heard Mule faced criminal damage by fire charges.

Ms Mattocks opposed requests from Mule's lawyer for a three week adjournment and Magistrate Danielle Davies agreed the case was taking too long, granting only a one week adjournment.

If the matter did not progress on July 6, it would go to a disclosure committal hearing, Magistrate Davies said.
