WA sex offender 'TJD' arrested post-breach

One of Western Australia's worst sex offenders has been arrested after he allegedly breached a condition of his strict 10-year supervision order, days after being released from jail.

The offender, referred to as "TJD" for legal reasons, was last week freed from prison by a Supreme Court judge.

The judge had revoked an indefinite detention order handed to TJD in 2011, saying he could be released under strict supervision for 10 years.

TJD had to wear a GPS tracking device, abide by a night-time curfew and was banned from unsupervised access to children.

But on Wednesday, police alleged the man had breached one of his reporting conditions and arrested him within hours.

He will appear in Perth Magistrates Court at a date to be announced.

TJD has a history of assaults on women dating back 23 years.

Talkback radio airwaves have this week been swamped by callers horrified by the man's release.

Earlier on Wednesday, WA Attorney-General Michael Mischin said he would obtain a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions' office about the reasoning underlying the decision to release the man, and would assess if it had been "a bad judgment call".

Mr Mischin said he personally felt the man should not have been released.
