A Perth father has been jailed after he unleashed on a stranger who attempted to defuse a carpark brawl.

The incident happened outside of a pub in the suburb of Ballajura on Melbourne Cup day in 2020.

The father-of-three swung and hit his victim in the head when he was not looking.

Brandon Orr, a peacemaker who attempted to defuse the fight, was knocked unconscious.

The blow to the head left the plumber in an induced coma with a fractured skull and bleeds on the brain.

The court heard he spent 16 days in the hospital and three months in rehabilitation.

He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, has constant migraines and can't work or drive.

Mr Muckleston was sentenced to three years and nine months behind bars.

Mr Orr recently celebrated his engagement and has plans to get married, have children and buy a house.

In sentencing, the judge told Mr Muckleston that Mr Orr did not provoke him and he attempted to be the peacemaker.
