WA man unfit for trial over matricide

A Perth man accused of murdering his mother in her Mosman Park home by hitting her over the head with a frying pan while she was making dinner is unfit to stand trial, a court has head.

Samuel Ashby appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday via videolink from the maximum security mental health unit Frankland Centre at Graylands Hospital.

His lawyer said a psychiatric report showed Ashby was suffering mental illness and was unfit to stand trial.

He has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on August 27.
