Vincent Stanford set to appeal life sentence for murder of Stephanie Scott

The man convicted of murdering NSW teacher Stephanie Scott may appeal his life sentence.

Lawyers for Vincent Stanford have lodged a notice of intention to appeal the sentence, handed down by Justice Robery Hulme last month.

Stanford, 25, was sentenced to life behind bars with no possibility of parole.

The court heard Stanford saw the bride-to-be alone at Leeton High School on Easter Sunday 2015 and felt "just that I had to kill her".

He raped and murdered her before burning her body.

Justice Hulme told the court the case was one of "great heinousness".

He said Stanford's culpability was "so extreme" that it could "be met with only one response".

The news comes in the wake of another tragedy for the Scott family.

Ms Scott's father Robert, a retired teacher, was clearing land on his Canowindra farm in the NSW central west when he was hit and killed by a falling tree on Tuesday.
