Vietnam PM to visit Australia

Territorial tensions in the South China Sea are likely to be on the agenda when Prime Minister Tony Abbott hosts his Vietnamese counterpart.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will arrive in Canberra on Tuesday night.

He'll receive a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House on Wednesday.

Mr Abbott says the visit underscores the strength and breadth of the Australia-Vietnam bilateral relationship which includes trade and investment, education and people-to-people ties.

The pair is expected to sign agreements on a working holidaymaker scheme and combating human trafficking.

They're also likely to sign deals on peacekeeping and war legacy issues.

The South China Sea dispute involving Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines is also expected to be discussed.

Vietnam is Australia's fastest growing trade partner within southeast Asia.

Mr Dung will also visit Sydney before travelling to New Zealand. He first visited Australia in 2008.
