Victorian Police Minister Wade Noonan to take three months leave after being exposed to details of 'unspeakable' crimes in job

Victorian Police and Corrections Minister Wade Noonan is taking three months of leave after exposure to traumatic events in his job.

In a statement released today he said that through his role there had been an accumulation of experiences that had taken an unexpected toll.

“I need time to receive further support and assistance including professional counselling,” the statement read.

The member for Williamstown will be replaced by Robin Scott during his absence.

Premier Daniel Andrews supported his colleague, saying in a statement "he has made a courageous decision that is in the best interests of his health and family."

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner, Graham Ashton said in a statement, we all know too well the impact of mental health in the emergency services sector.

"I wish him and his family well over the coming months," he said.
