Driver allegedly blows six times over BAC limit after hit-and-run in Melbourne's east

A Melbourne man involved in an alleged hit-and-run in the city's east overnight allegedly returned a BAC breath test result of 0.317 - over six times the legal drinking limit.

A Toyota Hilux ute allegedly crashed into a parked car on Mitcham Road in Mitcham, before the driver fled the scene.

But a witness to the alleged hit-and- run followed the ute driver home and called police.

When police arrived at the driver's home, the 37-year-old man allegedly returned a breath test reading of 0.317.

Charges have not yet been laid, but the man is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic offences, according to police.

The man's license was immediately suspended.

Police have asked anyone with dashcam or CCTV of the crash to come forward or to contact Crime Stoppers.
