‘Not going to happen’: Victorian Premier rules out firefighters union demand for extra overtime

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has shut down a push by the firefighters union to be paid an extra day's wages for just 20 minutes of overtime work.

The United Firefighters Union has lodged a wish-list of claims as it negotiates a new enterprise bargaining agreement with the government.

The union has also requested a 32 percent pay rise during the next three years, free public transport, free driving licences and no redundancies.

Acknowledging many of its demands won’t be met, the union said the claims are ambitious and negotiations with the government will be carried out in good faith.

However, Mr Andrews was firm in ruling out the overtime proposal.

“That’s not going to happen, and we’re going very carefully in a considered way to work through these issues,” he said.
