Victorian teen crashes car while filming Snapchat video

A Victorian teenager who was filming a Snapchat video seconds before she ran off the road and crashed has lost her licence and been fined $2000.

The 19-year-old from Dennington was three times over the legal alcohol limit and even managed to brand her phone with a Mazda logo during the impact, Victoria Police said in a post on Facebook.

The Snapchat video found on the woman’s shattered mobile phone is filmed from the driver’s seat, with a full view of the car’s speedometer.

The car zips down a country road in Winslow at night and then veers off course, crashing into the barrier beside the road.

Noone was injured as a result of the crash.

A close up off the woman’s phone revealed part of a Mazda logo that crash investigators believe was made when the car’s airbag was deployed.

The driver was charged with speeding, careless driving, a blood alcohol reading of 0.164 and using a mobile phone while driving.

She appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court on 11 December 2017. Her probationary licence was cancelled and she was disqualified from driving for 16 months and fined $2000.
