Victorian blogger who inspired thousands dies after cancer battle

A Victorian mum-of-four who touched thousands with her blog about dealing with terminal bowel cancer has died.

Julia Watson passed away on December 18 surrounded by family and friends, a post on her “Five fairies and a fella” Facebook page confirmed.

“At 10:15pm tonight, surrounded by love, our brave, beautiful, and most courageous warrior woman, Julia, left us to begin her eternal dream,” Ms Watson’s friend Donna Zen wrote.

“Remember forever the lessons she gave us. Live, love, hope, dream, achieve and fight for what you believe in.

“You made us so proud, baby. Go gently.”

Ms Watson’s blog spoke with raw honesty about not only her cancer battle but also sexual abuse, body image issues, miscarriages, marriage breakdown and raising a child with Down syndrome.

In August, Ms Watson appeared on 60 Minutes in an emotional interview with Tara Brown.

“You never think when you bring children into this world that you're not going to be the person that raises them,” Ms Watson told a teary Brown.

In the 60 Minutes story, Ms Watson also spoke of her recently published book 'Breakfast, School Runs, Chemo'.

“There's so much of me in it, they'll read it [her kids] and they'll go … "that was our mum! Our mum did that!"' a grinning Ms Watson is seen saying as she holds up a copy of the book.

In the last month of Ms Watson’s life, friends set up a GoFundMe page, which raised enough money for the larger-than-life figure to spend her last days with her husband Gary and her daughters. Money continues to pour into the fund, with the total now reaching $46,000.
