Victoria Police officers charged with string of offences including perjury

A Victorian police officer has been charged with dozens of serious offences including perjury and taking detrimental action against a witness.

The 49-year-old sergeant was one of two officers charged in an investigation dealing with alleged offences while on duty dating from 2018 until this year, Victoria Police revealed overnight.

The western region officer is facing 84 charges in total, including misconduct in public office, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, attempting to pervert the course of justice and creating a false document.

A detective sergeant from a specialist command, 51, was charged with four offences: conspiracy to access police information, conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, attempting to access police information, and attempting to commit misconduct in public office.

Both men have been granted bail to appear in a magistrates' court at a later date, which Victoria Police has not revealed.
