Man and his guide dog killed by car, as another man dies after being hit by bus he was running for

A 63-year-old man and his guide dog have died after they were hit by a car at Wedderburn, north of Melbourne.

Raymond Meadows was known as a fit man, who liked to walk to the gym in Wedderburn in the state's north-west every day.

But this morning at 6.40am as the 63-year-old and his guide dog took their usual route along the Calder Highway, they were hit by a car.

Both died at the scene. Police say it was dark, and there were no street lights, so he wasn’t seen by the driver.

Hours earlier in Notting Hill, Frank Dubrovich, 62, was leaving a pub on Fern Tree Gully Road when he was struck by a bus after tripping while running to catch it.

Today a solemn note remembered the popular regular, fondly known as Frankie. One friend said he was “kind, calm and was the heart beat of the pub.

“Same seat, same side of the bar, practising his darts during the day, he's always sat there.” he told 9News.

“Everyone knows you look over there and there's Frank. So all of a sudden there won't be, and it’s a tragedy.”

The driver did not stop at the scene but police say they're not treating it as a criminal hit-and-run, as the driver may have been unaware of the incident.

His friends say they're shocked by the news. The mens’ deaths bring this year's soaring road toll in Victoria, to 139.
