Thousands of Victoria Police officers and protective service officers are set to go on strike this Sunday, December 3, as pay negotiations with Victoria Police break down.

The union and Victoria Police failed to reach an agreement following months of negotiations, with workers requesting a four per cent pay rise and improved working conditions.

"Our police officers are being burnt out day by day," Police Association Victoria chief executive Wayne Gatt said.

"It is not action police officers want to take, but it is action we're being driven to by a failure of the government to deal properly and respectfully with its police.

"Our members will be telling the government exactly what they think about the way they're dealing with them, and exactly what needs to be done to correct the issues that are causing the slash and burn mentality.

"If you hit the bottom line of my members' pockets and pay pockets, we'll hit yours."

In a statement, Victoria Police said it continued to negotiate "in good faith" with the Police Association Victoria.
