Man arrested over three decades old cold case murder

Three decades after Ranny Yun was brutally murdered in her Springvale home, police have made a breakthrough in the case.

Homicide detectives arrested Perth man Meth Mean over the alleged murder of the Cambodian woman in October 1987.

Police said they were able to identify the suspect after a cold case review, despite years of exhaustive investigation.

Western Australia authorities assisted their Victorian counterparts, taking a 49-year-old Thornlie man into custody yesterday.

Mr Mean been charged with murder and is expected to be extradited back to Melbourne.

A $50,000 reward was offered by the Victorian Government in 1988 for information regarding the case.

At the time of Mrs Yun's death, investigators said she had been operating illegal gambling and loan-sharking activities.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Ashby told reporters Mrs Yung was part of Cambodia's Pol Pot regime.

The 27-year-old emigrated two years before the murder, and had only lived in the Windsor Avenue property with her husband for a fortnight.
