Search for man behind 1981 sexual assault in Melbourne
Police are calling for help to track down a man who attacked a woman in a car in inner Melbourne more than 40 years ago, forcing her to run to a nearby home for help.
Detectives say they have only recently been made aware of the sexual assault, which occurred in Elwood in February 1981, and have been unsuccessful in investigating the report.
On the night of the attack, a 23-year-old St Kilda woman allegedly got into a car with an unknown man about 10pm to 11pm on Grey Street in St Kilda.

The man allegedly then drove to Horry Lane in Elwood, where he sexually assaulted her.
She then fled the car and ran to a nearby house for help.
The residents of the house drove the woman back to the hotel where she was staying, during which she told them about the attack.
Detectives want to speak to those people who helped the woman.
Police have also released an image of what it is believed the man looked like at the time of attack.
The man was believed to be Caucasian and aged in his 20s in 1981.
He had a round face, medium build and brown hair in a short "pageboy-style" haircut.
