Two charged over Melbourne bus assault

Two women have been charged over the alleged assault of a Christian bishop bus driver in Melbourne.

Police say a 22-year-old woman was charged with unlawful assault, indecent assault and wilful damage, while a 40-year-old woman was charged with intentionally and recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault and wilful damage.

The older woman was also charged with the alleged assault of a female bus passenger.

Driver Faavae Tuiloma says he must forgive the women, who turned themselves in to police on Friday.

"To me as a Christian, I'm serving in my church as a bishop for five years and I have to forgive them," he said.

It's alleged the woman punched, bit and spat on Mr Tuiloma, who is now nervously awaiting blood tests to determine if he contracted anything from the bite.

The women were bailed and will appear in Dandenong Magistrates Court on March 18.
