A taxi owner has been seriously injured after she was struck in a hit-and-run in Melbourne's west.

About 7pm on Sunday, a taxi struck a bollard at roadworks in Truganina, causing it to slip down the side of the road and get stuck.

Its owner and a tow truck arrived about 2.30am on Monday to collect the taxi.

The owner, a 56-year-old Burnside woman, was standing beside the tow truck when a car struck her, pinning her under a safety barrier, while the driver continued on from the scene, police say.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The tow truck driver managed to get the registration of the car, and police soon after apprehended the driver, a 37-year-old Tarneit man.

He was interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries.
