Woman loses second home in two years in bushfires

A woman who lost her second home in two years to bushfires currently raging in Victoria says she is going to buy a lottery ticket to see if her luck will change.

Susan Grinpukel and her husband Brian Robertson lost their Warrandyte home yesterday afternoon when a bushfire tore along their street, The Age reports.

"It's been not a good trot," Ms Grinpukel said. "The first thing was a Melbourne Water fault and this one's fire – it's not like you don't do the proper thing."

This is the second home she has lost in two years after a burst water main destroyed her Templestowe home in March 2012.

Ms Grinpukel said she is now going to buy a lottery ticket to try and turn her luck around.

"What are the odds? Two houses in two years," she said.

The couple's home was the first to be destroyed when the fire hit Warrandyte.

Mr Robertson's 17-year-old son, Keiran, was home at the time but managed to escape unharmed when Ms Grinpukel's ex-husband turned up and rushed him away.

More than 100 firefighters and four water-bombing aircrafts battled the flames yesterday afternoon.
