Woman attacked by man with hammer in Vic

A woman has fought off a hammer wielding attacker on a Melbourne Street.

The man pulled a balaclava over his face and approached her armed with a hammer while she was outside shops in Ringwood East on Tuesday, police say.

As she wrestled with the man he put her in a headlock and pulled her onto the road before she screamed and two men came and chased him off.
