Witnesses wanted over Melb walker's death

Witnesses who passed by a crash scene where a woman lay dying on a Melbourne road have been urged to come forward.

A woman, 72, was killed and her 74-year-old companion was seriously injured when they were struck by a ute as they walked across a road in Sunshine North on Sunday, police say.

Police on Thursday issued an appeal for public help to locate people in two vehicles believed to have driven around the scene moments after the collision.

The ute's driver, a 40-year-old Truganina man, has been charged over the 72-year-old's death.
